Keep the Food in Your Refrigerator Safe During a Storm

A major storm can knock out power for days at a time. Once your power comes back on, you’ll need to know if the food left in your refrigerator is still safe to eat. A freezer that is at least half full will keep food safe for about 24 hours. A full freezer holds food cold for about 48 hours. To test the food in your refrigerator, use a thermometer. Any food that goes above 40 degrees for more than two hours should be thrown away.
